Utah motorcyclist injured in fatal SR-59 crash faces $82K in bills; driver who started crash still unidentified

A Utah motorcyclist is facing mounting medical bills and a lengthy recovery after suffering a serious spinal cord injury in a deadly crash on SR-59 in Hurricane earlier this year.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, the May 1 crash began when a speeding black passenger car attempted to pass traffic in oncoming lanes, forcing another driver to swerve.

The resulting multi-vehicle crash left one person dead and several others involved, including motorcyclist Jared Fredrickson, according to his family.

The driver believed to have triggered the crash had not been identified in UHP’s earlier reports.

Jared Fredrickson was participating in his annual Red Rock Recovery Ride, celebrating his sobriety alongside friends, when the crash occurred, according to his family.

UHP reported that a motorcyclist swerved to avoid the collision, brushed a Jeep Wrangler and left the roadway.

Fredrickson’s family says he suffered a C4 spinal cord injury, two neck fractures requiring spinal fusion and seven back fractures.

The injuries left him facing an extensive rehabilitation process.

Despite his injuries, Jared Fredrickson has regained the ability to walk, according to his family.

However, he continues to experience severe nerve pain, loss of sensation and complications affecting his right arm and hand. His family says a recent MRI also revealed additional pressure on his spinal cord.

His recovery is expected to require 12–18 months of rehabilitation, with approximately $82,000 in medical bills already reported and ongoing treatment costs estimated at $7,500 per month.

The family says Fredrickson is their primary earner and is facing significant financial challenges as he continues treatment.
