utah sues former football coach freddie whittingham for $1.3M+

Utah alleges Freddie Whittingham left for Michigan while still under contract and "actively recruited players and recruits" to follow him. The university is seeking $300,000 for breach of contract and at least $1 million in additional damages.

The University of Utah is suing former tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham after he left the Utes to join his brother Kyle Whittingham’s staff at Michigan.

The lawsuit alleges Freddie was still under contract through January 2027 when he left and failed to provide written notice, receive permission to speak with Michigan or pay damages required under his contract. Utah also alleges he recruited Utah players and recruits to Michigan while still employed by the university.

Utah is seeking more than $300,000 for breach of contract and at least $1 million in additional damages. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
