slc mayor responds to shane gillis' viral rogan clip about homeless chasing him in slc
Mendenhall says crime is down, downtown has transformed since 2020; comedian's alleged encounter may be four years old.
SLC Mayor Erin Mendenhall is responding after comedian Shane Gillis went viral for telling Joe Rogan he was allegedly chased by a homeless man while visiting downtown Salt Lake City.
Mendenhall pushed back on the clip, saying crime is down and downtown Salt Lake has “transformed” since 2020. She also suggested Gillis’ alleged encounter may have happened roughly four years ago.
The clip has sparked a larger debate online about homelessness, crime and how safe downtown SLC feels today.
