utah and federal government reach %60 million great salt lake settlement

Utah and the federal government have reached a $60 million settlement resolving a long-running dispute over land along the Great Salt Lake.
Under the agreement, 22,311 acres near the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge will be transferred to the federal government. Utah will receive at least $60 million, with the money required to be used exclusively for the benefit of the Great Salt Lake.
The agreement also provides for continued public use and access under federal law, while Utah retains mineral interests associated with the transferred lands.
The settlement brings an end to a longstanding state-federal dispute over the land.
