roy city council votes 4-1 to raise property taxes 34%
City leaders reduced the increase from an originally proposed 55%, saying additional revenue is needed primarily for employee wages and cost-of-living adjustments.
The Roy City Council voted 4-1 to approve a roughly 34% property tax increase for fiscal year 2027 following a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on August 11.
The increase was scaled back from an earlier proposal of roughly 55%. City officials said the additional revenue is intended to address employee wage adjustments and a 2.8% cost-of-living increase. For a home valued around $439,000, KSL reported Roy’s city property tax would rise from about $388 to $521 annually.
The decision has faced opposition from some residents, with a group now gathering signatures in an effort to put the increase before voters through a referendum.
