great salt lake approaches second lowest level on record

The Great Salt Lake is once again approaching historic lows.

The lake currently sits around 4,190.4 feet, just inches above the record low reached in 2021.

State officials say a new record low is unlikely this year, but another extremely dry winter could put the lake on track to reach unprecedented levels in 2027.

The lake’s continued decline remains a major concern for Utah, with impacts ranging from wildlife and air quality to the state’s economy.
