West Valley City Police say the stabbing at Valley Fair Mall is now being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Investigators say the suspect allegedly stabbed a kiosk employee multiple times before several brave bystanders stepped in, disarmed the suspect, and held him until officers arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery.

    Police Say Valley Fair Mall Employee Targeted Because of Religion. West Valley City police say a Valley Fair Mall employee was stabbed after the suspect allegedly targeted him because of his religion. According to investigators, 48-year-old Peter Michael Larsen admitted he intended to kill the employee after allegedly stabbing the victim multiple times inside the mall. Bystanders immediately rushed in, disarmed the suspect, and held him until officers arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive. Police continue to investigate, and the suspect is facing multiple charges.
