A Springville man has been arrested in connection with a suspected double homicide after his mother and another man were reported missing late last month.

According to police, 28-year-old Matthew Leonard was taken into custody and is facing two counts of aggravated murder, along with a charge of obstruction of justice.

The investigation began on March 26, when authorities received a missing person report for Sarah Johnson, who was last seen at her Springville home days earlier. A man who had reportedly been with her, identified as John Handricks, was later also reported missing.

As officers continued to look into their disappearance, investigators learned that both individuals were last seen at the home with Leonard. Witnesses reported hearing possible gunshots coming from inside the residence around that time.

Police later executed a search warrant at the home, where they say they found evidence consistent with a violent incident, including blood and shell casings.

Leonard was arrested during a traffic stop with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.

Authorities have not yet located the two missing individuals, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Leonard is currently being held without bail in the Utah County Jail.
