Utah’s Prop 4 fight is heating up after organizers submitted over 200,000 signatures to put a repeal question back on the ballot.

Prop 4 was originally approved by voters in 2018 to create an independent redistricting commission. Lawmakers later replaced it with their own maps in 2021. Courts ruled in favor of voters and ordered new maps, and now the issue could return to voters again this November if enough signatures are verified.

More than 1,300 Salt Lake County voters have requested to remove their signatures, claiming they were misled. County clerks are reviewing petitions through March 7.

At stake: who controls how Utah’s congressional district maps are drawn.
