UPDATE: The 27-year-old man killed in Sunday’s wingsuit BASE jumping accident has been identified as Gabe Reilly, a Salt Lake City firefighter who had served with the department for four years.

Reilly was an experienced BASE jumper and was with a group of roughly eight to 10 people near Leetham’s Hollow, east of Millville Canyon. Authorities say he jumped from an approximately 700-foot cliff when something went wrong and his wingsuit did not generate enough lift. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salt Lake City Fire Department remembered Reilly for his “infectious smile, kind heartedness, and his free-spirited nature.” His father also served as a Salt Lake City firefighter before retiring in 2024.

Our condolences go out to Reilly’s family, friends and fellow firefighters.
