saturday night live mocks kevin o'leary's utah data center
SNL took aim at Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary's planned Stratos data center in Utah, joking that the project would consume water, eliminate jobs and generate profits.
“Saturday Night Live” took a shot at Kevin O’Leary and his proposed Utah data center during this weekend’s “Weekend Update.”
Comedian James Austin Johnson portrayed O’Leary in the segment, joking that the project would replace tens of thousands of acres with “a very loud computer” while taking aim at concerns over water use, jobs and the project’s impact on local communities.
The real project, known as Stratos, has faced significant pushback in Utah over concerns about water, energy use, environmental impact and transparency. O’Leary has since scaled the proposed project down from roughly 40,000 acres to just over 20,000 acres.
The SNL segment also referenced O’Leary’s previous claim that some opponents of the project had ties to the Chinese Communist Party, a statement he later walked back.
Do you think Utah’s data center controversy was fair game for SNL?
